How to extract text from a PDF

  1. 1 Add your PDF Choose a PDF file, or drag it into the box.
  2. 2 Extract the text Click "Extract text". It is pulled out page by page.
  3. 3 Copy or save Copy the text in one click, or download it as a TXT file.

Why extract text from a PDF

Copying text from a PDF with the mouse often mixes up columns and stops at the end of the page. With PDF to text, all the text in the document is pulled out at once, page by page, with a marker at the start of each one: a quick way to extract text from PDF files and paste it into an email, a word processor or a translation tool.

The text comes without formatting: no bold, no tables, no images, which makes it easy to reuse. If your PDF is a scan, it only contains images of pages and no text to extract: run it through the OCR PDF tool first, which recognizes the characters and makes the text selectable.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file safe?

It is processed right in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers: your PDF never leaves your device.

Why is no text found?

Your PDF is probably a scan: its pages are images. Use the OCR PDF tool to recognize the text, then come back here if needed.

Is the formatting preserved?

No, you get plain text, without bold or tables. To keep the layout and be able to edit it, use PDF to Word instead.

How do I copy text from PDF files?

Copy it in one click from the page, or download a TXT file that clearly separates each page.

Do I need an account?

No. LordOfThePDF works without signing up and without an email address.
