Why flatten a PDF
A filled-in PDF form keeps its fields editable: anyone can change an answer afterward, and some software displays the entered values poorly, or even drops them when printing. When you flatten PDF form fields, your answers are locked into the page, which then looks the same everywhere.
It's a good step before sending an application, a file or a completed order form. Keep a copy of the original: once flattened, the fields can no longer be edited. If your PDF has no form fields, the tool tells you instead of giving you back an identical file.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files safe?
Yes. Flattening happens in your browser: your PDFs are never sent to a server and stay on your device.
Does flattening make PDF non-editable?
Yes, that's the point: the fields become fixed content. Keep the original file if you think you'll need to correct it.
What if my PDF has no fields?
The tool tells you there's nothing to flatten. With several files, those with fields are flattened and the others come back untouched.
My form is empty, how do I fill it in first?
Use the Fill PDF form tool, then come back here to lock in your answers.
Can I flatten several PDFs at once?
Yes, up to 20 files, 100 MB max each. You get them back together in a ZIP archive.
