Why convert a PDF to grayscale
Printing a color document on a black and white printer sometimes gives disappointing results: colored text too faint, unreadable charts. When you convert your PDF to grayscale yourself, you get a grayscale PDF whose real result you see on screen before printing, and you avoid using up color cartridges on a printer that has them.
Some services also ask for black and white documents, and a file without color is often a little lighter. The text stays sharp and selectable: only the colors of images, charts and characters are turned into shades of gray. The conversion is permanent, so keep your original file.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files safe?
They are processed on our servers and deleted as soon as the converted PDF is sent back to you. Nothing is kept, viewed or shared.
Does a grayscale PDF take up less space?
Often a little, with no guarantee. To reduce the size significantly, use the Compress PDF tool afterward.
Does the text stay selectable?
Yes. Only the colors change, the text and layout stay exactly the same.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
Yes, up to 20 files, 100 MB max each. You get them back together in a ZIP archive.
Do I need an account?
No. LordOfThePDF works without signing up and without an email address.
