Why create a favicon
The favicon is the small icon shown in the browser tab, in bookmarks and on a phone's home screen. Without one, your site appears with a generic icon and is harder to spot among open tabs. Each platform expects its own size. The ZIP contains a favicon.ico in 16, 32 and 48 pixels, a 180-pixel apple-touch-icon.png for iPhone and iPad, and two icons of 192 and 512 pixels for Android. An image that isn't square is cropped from the center: start from a simple, well-centered logo.

How do I install the favicon on my site?
Copy the files to the root of your site, then paste the HTML code provided into the head tag of your pages. Your browser may keep the old icon cached for a while.
My image isn't square, is that a problem?
It is cropped from the center to become square. If your logo is very wide or tall, crop it yourself first to choose the part to keep.
